Theodore Robinson
Irasburg, Vermont, 1852-New York, New York, 1896
He studied at the Chicago Academy of Design in 1867 and the New York National Academy of Design in 1874. In Paris he joined Carolus-Duran's workshop, later studying under Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Art and returning to America after visiting Italy in 1878. From 1884 to 1892 he spent half the year in France, discovering Giverny in 1885, where Monet had been living since 1883, and publicising the latter's work in America, where he returned for good in 1892.
