Educating for the Present – School year 2017/18

Educating for the Presen is an education project designed by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Regione Toscana for upper secondary schools, consisting of thematic debates on contemporary art and culture held free of charge directly in the classroom. The initiative is supported by Publiacqua e Water Right Foundation.

Contemporary art can be a tool for reflecting on such crucial issues in today’s world as the environment and landscape, democracy and participation, cultural identity in the era of global connectivity. In exploring the work of contemporary artists, students have an opportunity to debate and to interpret the phenomena that forge the society we live in today, thus stimulating their critical skills as young adults and citizens.

Educating for the Present allows schools to take a fresh look at the contemporary world.

 

HOW IT WORKS
The scheme consists of three themed debates on the relationship between art and environment and resources, democracy and participation, identity and transformation. Teachers choose one or more themes to be addressed in classroom debates each lasting two hours. The debates are moderated by professional educators with expertise in the art field and can be conducted either during schooltime or outside school hours from October 2017 to June 2018.

The scheme, which is free of charge, is offered on a first-come-first-served basis due to limited availability.
