Tomás Saraceno

Organized by: Produced and organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Studio Tomás Saraceno
Curated by: Arturo Galansino

The oeuvre of Tomás Saraceno (b.1973, Argentina) can be seen as an ongoing research, informed by the worlds of art, architecture, biology, astrophysics and engineering; his floating sculptures, community projects and interactive installations propose and explore new, sustainable ways of inhabiting and sensing the environment. His practice engages the audience in imaginative and participative experiences for collectively rethinking the way we inhabit the world, beyond an only-human perspective.

In what will be his largest project in Italy to date, bringing a selection of his major works together with a radical new site-specific installation, the artist will transform the different spots of Palazzo Strozzi into a whole new unified space. Also supported by a multiform and interdisciplinary public programme, the exhibition will create a sort of living system inhabited by the human and non-human, the visible and invisible, a shared reality in which all entities contribute to the network of resonances between beings.

The challenge facing the Fondazione from the outset has been to bring international quality exhibition and cultural events to Florence and Tuscany.

On the palazzo’s Piano Nobile and in the Strozzina area the Fondazione organises art exhibitions ranging from the art of the ancient world via the Renaissance to the modern and contemporary era.
