Looking closely at details, following bold brushstrokes and delicate lines, moving in front of a painting until you feel immersed in color, standing still to contemplate shades and shapes: there are endless ways to connect with the art of Mark Rothko. Rather than creating images, Rothko wanted to create experiences — works of art to be felt with the whole body.
The exhibition Rothko in Florence brings together small paintings, monumental canvases, and project drawings from museums around the world.
Like the Sun on Your Back begins in the exhibition rooms, where the artworks become the starting point for individual observations and group sharing. Sensory experiences and hands-on activities allow participants to explore the exhibition in a playful and engaging way. Focusing on a selection of works we observe how the broad fields of color are the result of the careful artistic research of this great twentieth-century artist.
The second part of the activity takes place in the education room, where, inspired by the works we have observed, we experiment with materials, colors, and artistic techniques to freely express our creativity, following Rothko’s idea that making art is as natural as speaking or singing.
Like the Sun on Your Back is designed to be experienced together by adults and children: the exhibition thus becomes an opportunity to enjoy art in family.
The exhibition’s family activities are made possible thanks to the support of Gruppo Beyfin S.p.A.
