Sensitive Matter Seminar on the art of Anish Kapoor

Thursday 01 February 2024

17.00-19.00

Sensitive Matter is the seminar that the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi is organizing on the occasion of the exhibition Anish Kapoor. Untrue Unreal. The exhibition features a selection of historical and recent works by the important contemporary artist, including a new production specifically conceived in dialogue with the architecture of Palazzo Strozzi’s Renaissance courtyard.

The seminar is aimed at BA and MA students in Art History at the University of Florence and is organized as a research tour among the works of Anish Kapoor. The experience aims to provide an opportunity for direct confrontation with the works, as well as to study the development of Kapoor’s visual language, international awards and major exhibitions. The transformations of sculpture will also be explored through a comparison with other major figures in contemporary art. At the end of the course, the research will be shared in a public event at Palazzo Strozzi.

Seminar program

On Thursday 1 February at 17.00, research conducted by students of the University of Florence’s Contemporary Art History course pertaining to the themes of analysis addressed in the seminar will be presented in the Strozzina’s conference room.

Free participation subject to availability.

The project Sensitive Matter is carried out in collaboration with the SAGAS Department of the University of Florence, as part of Professor Giorgio Bacci’s Contemporary Art History course. The seminar is divided into a series of training meetings, visits to the exhibition, moments of study, discussion and bibliographic research, and at last a public event.
