Art/School/Museum 2015 Experiences between art and school

The Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, with the support of the Regione Toscana and in conjunction with the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci in the context of the regional project entitled Cantiere Toscana Contemporanea, organised a national conference on the relationship between schools and museums.

Some of Italy’s leading museums were invited to attend, along with artists and educators known nationwide for their commitment and for the quality of their educational proposals devoted to art and designed for schools.

Since 2012 the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi has been offering Educare al Presente, a programme for upper secondary schools throughout Tuscany designed to draw students closer to contemporary art and to the venues in which it is shown. With its Art/School/Museum conference Palazzo Strozzi of reiterates its commitment to schools and its identity as a venue for experimentation.

The conference provided an opportunity to share some of the most significant initiatives produced in Italy to attract young people to art, affording priority to unconventional formulas aiming to expand and renew the synergies among exhibition centers, museums, schools and the institutions.

The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect together on the extent to which familiarity with art is a crucial tool for educating the individual and the citizen, and on how cultural institutions can find solutions tailored to meet schools’ needs. Palazzo Strozzi wishes to offer museum managers and educators, school staff and teachers, students and artists the chance to share models, experiences and methodologies in an effort to develop a constructive debate on the museum’s role in educating students to art in schools.
