Open Space is a welcoming area designed for families visiting the Rothko in Florence exhibition. Every Saturday afternoon, from 15.30 to 18.30, the rooms of the Maria Manetti Shrem Educational Center open up to offer a place to stop before or after your visit, with a big carpet of cushions and simple activities for anyone who wants to take a break.

In the works of Mark Rothko, endless shades of color seem to move across the canvas: from the warmth of yellows and oranges, to the intensity of greens and browns, to deep reds, grays, and blacks. Each hue engages the eyes, the body, and the emotions of those who observe it. Inspired by Rothko’s paintings, inside Open Space families can build colorful architectural structures, look through tinted filters to see the world in new shades, match sounds with colors, or discover subtle color variations in illustrated books.

Designed for children aged 0–6, Open Space welcomes visitors of all ages to rest, relax, and play.
